Delta State Seeks Hosting Rights for 2026 President Federation Cup Final — FA Chairman

Chairman of the Delta State Football Association, Honourable Adode Godwin, has declared the state’s readiness and interest in hosting the 2026 President Federation Cup Final, citing its proven capacity to stage major national football events.

Adode made this known while speaking with journalists in Morocco, on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, where he highlighted Delta State’s infrastructure, hospitality and fan culture as key strengths.

According to him, Delta State remains well-positioned to host the final of Nigeria’s oldest football competition, having successfully staged the 2023 edition in Asaba.

“We hosted in 2023 and everyone can testify to Delta State hospitality. It was a grand finale and the turnout of fans was massive. People came from all over the country to Asaba for the final between Rangers of Enugu and Insurance of Benin,” Adode said.

Beyond hosting ambitions, the Delta FA boss also expressed optimism about the prospects of Warri Wolves, the state-owned club competing in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

He said the team has received strong backing from the Delta State Sports Commission, including improved funding and the recent acquisition of a new coaster bus to boost morale.

“The state has provided financial support to the team, and recently they got a new coaster bus to motivate them to success. I expect the team to reciprocate this gesture by improving their position on the league table. I believe they owe Delta State a continental ticket,” he stated.

Adode further assured football stakeholders that renovation work at the Warri Township Stadium would be completed within the year, noting that the upgraded facility would complement the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, in hosting major matches.

“Work has reached an advanced stage, and when completed, it will complement the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba. We are also working on improving the state of facilities at the Sapele Stadium as well,” he added.

The FA chairman’s comments underline Delta State’s broader ambition to remain a hub for football development and major sporting events in Nigeria, while strengthening club performance and upgrading critical sports infrastructure across the state.
