Amusan Opens 2026 in Top Gear with World Top-Three Ranking

World record holder Tobi Amusan has sent an early warning to her global rivals, kicking off 2026 firmly established among the elite after finishing the 2025 season as the world’s third-best athlete in the women’s 100m hurdles.

The Nigerian sprint hurdler closed the year ranked third on the World Athletics standings, amassing 1,430 ranking points to trail only Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji and American Grace Stark.

The ranking underlines Amusan’s sustained excellence and her ability to remain competitive at the very top of global athletics.

Amusan’s position was strengthened by her silver medal performance at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, where she once again proved her pedigree on the sport’s biggest stage.

The result reaffirmed her status as a consistent medal contender and one of the most reliable performers in the discipline.

Nigeria’s presence in the global rankings was further boosted by strong seasons from Ezekiel Nathaniel and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, who both finished 2025 ranked inside the world’s top 100 in the hurdles and shot put events respectively.

Amusan remains the only Nigerian woman ranked in the top five of her event and also sits 28th in the overall women’s world rankings for 2025—an achievement that highlights her longevity, resilience, and ability to deliver season after season.

As preparations for the new competitive cycle gather pace, Amusan’s latest ranking confirms one thing clearly: Nigeria’s hurdling queen remains firmly in the global title conversation heading into 2026.
