Uzoho Laments Missed Chances as Kun Khalifat Fall to Narrow Home Defeat Against Katsina United

Kun Khalifat FC head coach, Obinna Uzoho, described Sunday’s loss as “a bad day” after his side slipped to a narrow 1–0 home defeat against Katsina United on Matchday 19 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The encounter at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, was decided by a 39th-minute strike from Christopher Richards Ezinwanne, whose well-taken effort proved enough to hand Katsina United maximum points in a fiercely contested fixture.

Despite the scoreline, Kun Khalifat dominated large stretches of the game, enjoying greater possession and creating multiple scoring opportunities. However, profligacy in the final third once again haunted the home side, as Katsina United stayed organised and disciplined defensively to protect their slim advantage.

Speaking after the match, Uzoho admitted disappointment with the outcome but insisted his players executed the game plan effectively.

“The result is not what we planned for, but the boys played according to instructions,” he said. “We created chances throughout the ninety minutes but failed to convert them.”

The coach acknowledged the need for quick reflection and adjustment as the league approaches its second stanza.

“We need to reshuffle and make things right. Football can be unpredictable until the final whistle. We will go back, assess the game, and find ways to come back stronger,” he added.

Despite the setback, Uzoho maintained confidence in his squad, rating their overall performance between 70 and 80 per cent and attributing the defeat to an off day rather than a lack of effort.

“I don’t believe in luck, but today was just a bad day. We assure everyone that we are going to bounce back,” he concluded.

The defeat leaves Kun Khalifat rooted at the bottom of the NPFL table, underlining the scale of the challenge ahead as the second round of the season approaches. Katsina United, meanwhile, will take encouragement from a resilient away display that earned them all three points, as they return home with confidence ahead of the reverse fixture later in the campaign
