AFCON 2025: Ademola Lookman Cherishes MOTM Award, Says Eagles’ Players All Proud Of 3-2 Victory

Super Eagles’ winger, Ademola Lookman is cherishing his man of the match award from Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Tunisia at the 2025 African Cup of Nations and disclosed that all the Nigerian players are proud of their achievement.

Sports247 reports that Lookman was adjudged as the best player during the encounter in Fes, Morocco, after he got two assists and netted one in the Super Eagles’ emphatic display against the Tunisians.

He stated afterwards during the post-match media conference that he and the Nigerian players believe the game ended 3-1 in their favour, because the Tunisians scored their second goal from a dubious penalty.

He also spoke about the uncanny teamwork among all the Eagles’ players as well as how he and Victor Osimhen provided assists for each other, all of which he said are signs of unity in Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 squad.

The Atalanta of Italy dazzler retorted in a soft-spoken manner, “It’s a good victory, and we are proud of ourselves. It could have ended 3-1 for us, but the penalty helped them.

“We are all happy, and we always want to help each other on the pitch. We had to play together, stay calm and avoid any mistake in the final minutes.

“They came out for an equaliser, but we got the victory, and that’s the most important thing for our team. I am also happy that I was able to contribute to the win.”

Lookman, who now has two goals in the ongoing competition, following his match winner in the Eagles’ opening 2-1 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday, also revealed how he is able to either assist or hit the target.

“I just try to aim for goal, find the right space, and put the ball where it can bring a goal. I love to score, but I also like helping my teammates to score,” Looknan explained.

He will now aim for a third goal on the bounce in the last group match versus Uganda on Tuesday as well as in the round of 16, considering that Nigeria joined Egypt as early birds into the next stage of AFCON 2025 with two wins on the bounce.
