The secretary-general of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Mohammed Sanusi has sent out a passionate appeal to all journalists, social media influencers and fans to support the soccer governing body’s ongoing protest against DR Congo.
Sports247 reports that Sanusi made the appeal in reaction to what he perceived as growing counter-reactions from some Nigerians, who he said are supporting DR Congo in the case.

He disclosed that the Nigerians are using various social media platforms to slam the NFF and derail their efforts of trying to get the Super Eagles to the 2026 World Cup through ‘the back door.’
Sanusi faulted such action, which he said is in contrast with how the football body of DR Congo has received massive backing from everyone in their country.
He began by stressing that the NFF have a good petition against nine DR Congo players but will concentrate on seven of them whose case seems to be tighter than others.
Sanusi declared, “The area of strength is based on the Congolese rule that says you cannot have dual passports in their country, but these players have dual passports.
“About nine of them fall into that category, but we are focusing on seven of them who have dual passports. They have not denounced their European passports, and they are still carrying them.”
He then pointed out that it is alarming that some Nigerians are working against the NFF’s efforts in trying to bring DR Congo to book and urged everyone who is currently undertaking such action to have a change of heart.
“My worry is that, if you go to social media, you will see that every Congolese is solidly behind (their football federation), and they are doing everything possible to support (their officisls).
“On the other hand, there are some Nigerians who are creating excuses for Congo (and helping them in the case),” Sanusi pointed out in a shaking voice.
