Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has called on Nigerian fans to continue backing the national team following their 2–1 victory over Tanzania in the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Speaking after the Group C clash in Fès, Simon described the win as an important first step in Nigeria’s AFCON journey and praised the collective determination within the squad.

“It feels great to win the opening game,” Simon said. “Everyone in the team wants to get the job done.”
The winger emphasized that the Super Eagles approached the match with confidence and belief, despite the pressure that comes with tournament openers.
“No one is scared in this team. We believe in ourselves and what we can do,” he added.
Simon noted that opening games can be tricky, especially against opponents determined to make a statement, but praised Nigeria’s ability to secure maximum points.
“First games are never easy. The most important thing is to win and build from there,” he stated.
The Super Eagles dominated large spells of the encounter, taking the lead through Semi Ajayi before regaining the advantage via Ademola Lookman after Tanzania briefly drew level.
Simon acknowledged that there is still room for improvement but insisted that the result provides a solid foundation for the rest of the tournament.
“We know we can play better, and we will improve with each game,” he said.
The winger also turned attention to the supporters, urging Nigerians to stay behind the team as they continue their AFCON campaign.
“We need the fans to keep supporting us. Their support gives us extra motivation,” Simon stressed.
He highlighted the importance of unity between the players and supporters, particularly as expectations rise.
“When the fans are with us, it makes a big difference,” he added.
Nigeria now prepare for their next Group C fixture against Tunisia national football team, as the Super Eagles look to build momentum and edge closer to qualification for the knockout stages.
With three points secured and confidence growing, Simon’s message was simple — the journey has started, and support will be key to how far Nigeria go in Morocco.
