Masters Athletes Present Championship Medals to NSC Chairman After Historic Outing in Tunisia

Nigeria’s Masters Athletics heroes, fresh from an exceptional showing at the African Masters Athletics Championship in Tunisia, paid a courtesy visit on Tuesday to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Alhaji Shehu Dikko, where they formally presented the medals won at the competition.

Team Nigeria, competing against some of the continent’s strongest veteran athletes, produced a remarkable performance, amassing 18 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals to underline the nation’s rising profile in Masters athletics.

Receiving the team, Alhaji Dikko praised the athletes for their commitment, resilience, and patriotic spirit, describing their medal haul as “a testament to the enduring excellence of Nigerian sportsmanship.”

The delegation was led by the Secretary-General of the Masters Athletics Federation, Dr. Safiya Yahaya-Kongolia, who commended the NSC for its continued support and highlighted the need for sustained investment to further strengthen Nigeria’s presence in Masters competitions globally.

The visit also provided an opportunity for discussions on improved welfare, training support, and future international engagements for Masters athletes.

With their Tunisian triumph now formally presented at home, Nigeria’s veteran athletes continue to inspire both current and upcoming generations, proving that excellence truly knows no age.
