The head coach of Abeokuta Stormers FC, Olarewaju Fawehinmi is taking stock of his team’s first four matches this season in the lower division Nigeria National League (NNL), ahead of their next away game on Friday.
Sports247 gathered that the Abeokouta-based outfit, who are currently top of the table with seven points from four matches, will travel to Lagos to tango First Bank FC, and Coach Fawehinmi knows it will be a tough nut to crack.
With another team from The Centre of Excellence, Sporting Lagos FC, also on seven points but placed second only due to goals difference, Fawehinmi conceded that his team will have to do better in their remaining fixtures.
Speaking after a 4-2 win over visiting Osun United of Osogbo last weekend, the exuberant tactician acknowledged that his side need to maintain their tempo for all 90 minutes of each fixture.
“I will go home with the first half performance of my players. The second half performance was not that good, but we’ll correct it before the next game,” said Fawehinmi.
He noted that it was a similar scenario when his side beat Godswill Akpabio FC of Uyo in their first home fixture this season, but they could also not maintain a clean sheet in their 3-1 win.
Fawehinmi also admitted they will have to improve on their away form, as they first lost 1-0 to Ekiti United before settling for a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lagos, whose local rivals his side will visit this Friday on NNL Match Day5.
“I remember last year, when I was in another club, I had a moment like this to go through. So, for our next match, we are already looking forward to showing something better than what we have,” Fawehinmi concluded.
