Obasogie Celebrates AFCON Call-Up: ‘It’s Always an Honour — We Want to Make Nigerians Proud in Morocco’

Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has expressed deep joy after being named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, describing the call-up as a moment of pride and responsibility.

Obasogie, who plays for Singida SC in Tanzania, said it is always special to be recognised at the national level and that wearing the Super Eagles colours remains one of the greatest honours of his career.

“It’s always exciting to be called up to represent Nigeria. Every invitation is special, and I am grateful,” he said.

The goalkeeper added that the upcoming AFCON, scheduled for 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, represents a huge opportunity for the Super Eagles to restore pride after the heartbreak of missing the last two World Cup tournaments.

“AFCON is a big chance for us to make Nigerians proud again. The expectations are high, and we want to match that with our performances,” he noted.

Obasogie emphasised that he is always ready to step up whenever the national team needs him, saying his mentality has always been to work hard, stay prepared, and contribute in any role required.

“I am always ready. Any time I am called, I give my best. Wearing the national colours is something I’m proud of, and I take it seriously,” he said.

He praised the depth of the Super Eagles’ goalkeeping department, noting that competition brings out the best in everyone and strengthens the squad heading into a major tournament.

“We have good goalkeepers, and competition is healthy. At the end of the day, it helps Nigeria,” he added.

Obasogie also called on fans to support the team fully, reminding Nigerians that unity and encouragement can make a significant difference in the squad’s confidence.

“We need the country behind us. When Nigerians support the team, the energy is different,” he said.

With morale high and preparations underway, Obasogie believes the Super Eagles are capable of leaving Morocco with a strong performance, and potentially something even bigger.
