Oyeniyi Targets Trophy as Nigeria U-15 Set for WAFU B Secondary School Championship Opener in Ouagadougou

Nigeria’s U-15 head coach, Seun Oyeniyi, says his boys are fully primed to go all the way as the WAFU B U-15 Secondary School Championship kicks off in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The young Nigerian side will open their campaign on Monday against Côte d’Ivoire at the Stade du 4 Août, with kickoff fixed for 11 a.m., before returning to the same venue on Tuesday for a crucial second group match against Benin Republic.

Oyeniyi, speaking confidently ahead of the opener, revealed that the team has mapped out a clear strategy to begin the tournament on a winning note.

“We have a game plan against Côte d’Ivoire on Monday and I am optimistic about winning the first game, as that will spur us toward our target, which is winning the trophy,” he said.
“However, if we eventually beat Ivory Coast, that is not the end. We have to regroup and top the group by beating Benin Republic also, before playing in the semifinals and hopefully the final on Thursday.”

According to the tournament schedule, the semifinals are slated for Wednesday, while both the third-place match and the final will hold on Thursday, making it a tightly packed competition for the West African school teams.

The Nigerian contingent—made up of 19 players and six officials—arrived in Ouagadougou on Saturday after traveling through Lagos and Abidjan. They are currently lodged at Hotel Splendid as they fine-tune preparations for the campaign.

With confidence high in camp and a clear focus from the technical bench, Nigeria’s U-15 side will be aiming to assert their dominance early and sustain momentum through to Thursday’s final.
