Across four intense days of competition, the 15-man team delivered a near-flawless campaign, controlling the board from the opening round to the final game.
Nigeria’s all-round brilliance was reflected in their impressive statistics — 350 total wins, a +8975 cumulative points spread, and a 54.7% winning ratio, placing the country comfortably at the top of the standings.
Captain Rex Ogbakpa led the charge, supported by outstanding displays from Oluwatimilehin Doko, Abdulmumin Jimoh, Tega Okiemute, and Godwin Victor.
All five players finished inside the top 20 of the individual rankings, underscoring Nigeria’s remarkable depth and consistency.
The individual crown went to Canada’s Adam Logan, who defeated New Zealand legend Nigel Richards 4–2 in the best-of-seven final.
Host nation Ghana emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest stories, finishing second with 114 wins, ahead of Kenya.
The success of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Gambia, and South Africa — all breaking into the Top 10 — marked a strong continental showing for Africa.
Nigeria’s rising star Oluwatimilehin Doko also delivered one of the most memorable individual runs of the championship.
Competing in his first WESPAC event, Doko finished fifth in the world, winning 21 games with a commanding +1395 spread.
Nigeria Scrabble Federation President Bright Idahosa praised the team’s unity and resilience after reclaiming the global crown.
“We are proud of your achievements,” he said. “Your teamwork and courage showcased the true Nigerian spirit.”
