Valencia CF are weighing a January swoop for Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar, but the looming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has cast doubt over the transfer’s feasibility.
Sadiq, who previously spent a short loan spell at the Mestalla, is back on the club’s radar as they look to reinforce their attack in the winter window.
However, with AFCON kicking off next month, the Spanish side fears losing the forward for several weeks at a crucial stage of the season.

According to sources close to the club, Valencia remain impressed by the Real Sociedad striker’s profile but are hesitant to commit to a deal that could see him unavailable during a busy fixture schedule.
The situation mirrors 2023, when Sadiq’s AFCON involvement was expected before injury ruled him out of the tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
Valencia had previously backed away from a permanent move due to Sociedad’s €9 million valuation, and the additional uncertainty of AFCON has further complicated their decision-making.
With the clock ticking toward the January window and Sadiq still part of Nigeria’s plans for Morocco 2025, it remains unclear whether Valencia will move forward or look elsewhere for attacking reinforcement.
