The Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) has officially appointed Coach Bobola Akinfolarin as the new Head Coach of Sunshine Stars Football Club, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Akure-based side ahead of the new Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the ODSFA headquarters in Akure, with the agency’s Chairman, Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, Team Manager Tokunbo Akinyelure, Administrative Secretary Lanre Abiodun, and other top officials in attendance.
Akinfolarin, a proud indigene of Ondo State and former Sunshine Stars player, signed a one-season contract with the club. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, holding a CAF B Coaching License and an Advanced Certificate from the National Institute for Sports (NIS).
Before his appointment, Akinfolarin served as Technical Director of Sunshine Queens FC and previously worked as assistant coach under respected tacticians including Bala Abubakar, Kennedy Boboye, and Kayode Olujoungbe.
Speaking after signing his contract, the former defender expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to restore Sunshine Stars to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
“This is home for me, and I fully understand what Sunshine Stars mean to the people of Ondo State. I appreciate the trust the agency has placed in me, and I’m ready to give my all to bring the club back to where it belongs — the NPFL,” Akinfolarin said.
ODSFA Chairman, Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, hailed the appointment as both strategic and symbolic, describing Akinfolarin as a “true son of the soil” who embodies the spirit and ambition of the club.
“Coach Akinfolarin’s appointment is a well-deserved one. His understanding of the club’s culture and his proven track record make him the right man to lead this project. We’re confident he’ll take Sunshine Stars to greater heights,” Ogbonnaya stated.
Sunshine Stars FC will begin their new campaign this weekend with an away clash against Edel FC in Awka, as they set their sights on earning a swift return to Nigeria’s top flight.
