Day 2 of Athletics at the 27th Nigerian University Games (#27NUGAGames) in Jos produced thrilling performances, with Adekunle Ajasin University’s (AAUA) Egbunu Pere Victory storming to victory in the men’s 400m final.
Egbunu powered home in 48.75 seconds, holding off a strong late charge from Mark Dimas of the host university, UNIJOS, who finished second in 49.56s, while Bassey Melvin Stanley of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) clinched bronze in 49.88s.

The race drew loud cheers from the crowd at the University of Jos Sports Complex, as Egbunu maintained his composure down the final stretch to secure AAUA’s first athletics gold of the Games.
His performance not only underlined his growing status as one of the most promising quarter-milers in the university circuit but also gave AAUA a significant boost in the overall athletics standings.
The men’s 400m final capped a day filled with intensity and excitement, as athletes from across Nigeria continued to battle for supremacy on the track.
