The much-anticipated 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season will officially kick off in grand style this Saturday, November 8, at the Lafia City Stadium, with Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, set to headline the opening ceremony as the Special Guest of Honour.
The opening fixture will feature Lafia-based FC Basira locking horns with Mighty Jets of Jos in a highly anticipated Conference C encounter expected to draw a large crowd.

Governor Sule will perform the ceremonial kickoff, alongside other top dignitaries including NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, NNL Chairman, George Aluo, and other members of the league’s governing board.
Also expected in the Governor’s entourage are the Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu Bohar, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isaac Danladi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu Alhassan, and Nasarawa FA Chairman, Mr. Salisu Usman Galadima.
Expressing appreciation to the Nasarawa State Government for hosting the season opener, the NNL leadership described Governor Sule’s support as a strong signal of his commitment to sports development and grassroots football in the state.
With the 8,000-capacity Lafia City Stadium set to be filled with enthusiastic fans, football lovers are expecting an exciting curtain-raiser that will set the tone for what promises to be a thrilling NNL campaign.
