Fulham of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi is blowing hot and raising the ante ahead of next week’s four-nation African play-offs for tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as he declared that the Super Eagles must defeat Gabon in the opening match, Sports247 reports.
In order to reach the decisive intercontinental play-offs in Mexico, the Eagles will first have to overcome Gabon next week Thursday in Rabat, Morocco, then think about the final against either Cameroon or Democratic Republic of Congo, and Iwobi admitted that both matches will be tough.

The former Arsenal and Everton dazzler, however, assured that the Nigerian players will go all out to justify this second chance that they now have to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, after starting badly in the original qualifiers.
“The way we started the World Cup qualifiers was not great, but we managed to rescue ourselves from the dead. Our manager, Eric Chelle, said we were basically dead, but we resurrected.
“So, we need to use this as another chance. When we play against Gabon, we must beat them, then we’ll think of Cameroon and Congo,” Iwobi affirmed.
He acknowledged that it will not be a stroll in the park, as all the other three competing nations are equally formidable, but the in-form creative midfielder believes the Eagles have enough top quality players to see them through.
“These are three great nations, and we all have the same goal; because we want to play at the World Cup. We know it’s not going to be easy, but we can do it. This is our best chance left to try and qualify.
“We know we have the players and the ability to compete against any other country in the world,” reiterated Iwobi, who recently became the first Nigerian to play 300 games in the English Premier League.
