Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to begin their quest for qualification to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a crucial first-leg clash against Benin Republic on Friday at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé, Togo.
Head coach Justin Madugu has exuded confidence ahead of the encounter, assuring fans that his team has the quality, mentality, and depth to secure a commanding result and keep Nigeria’s perfect qualification record intact.

“We will go out and play our game and seek the goals that will put us in a good stead ahead of the return leg,” Madugu told NFF Media, emphasizing that the team’s focus remains on getting the job done professionally.
Nigeria — 10-time champions and record winners of the Women’s AFCON — have never missed an edition of the continental showpiece and will be looking to not only book their place in Morocco 2026 but also extend their dominance by hunting an 11th title.
The Falcons will, however, be without dynamic midfielder Jennifer Echegini, who was ruled out with a hamstring injury. Despite her absence, Madugu insists the squad remains strong enough to deliver.
“Yes, we would have loved to have Jennifer, but we do not. We can only pray for her quick recovery. We have a team that will go out there and make us proud,” he stated.
Nigeria’s frontline remains stacked with attacking powerhouses such as Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okworonkwo, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Folashade Ijamilusi, alongside the exciting new call-up, Joy Omewa, who could make her mark on debut.
With kickoff slated for 4 PM Nigerian time, the Super Falcons will look to assert their dominance early, using their wealth of experience and firepower to set the tone for what could be another successful WAFCON campaign.
For Madugu and his team, the message is clear — Nigeria’s reign at the top of African women’s football must continue.
