Morocco 2025: Flamingos Captain Shakirat Moshood Confident Nigeria Will Bounce Back Against France

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team captain, Shakirat Moshood, has assured fans that the Flamingos will respond strongly when they face France in their second group game at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s crucial encounter, Moshood admitted that the team was disappointed with their 4–2 defeat to Canada in the opening game but insisted that the players have put the setback behind them.

“We are not happy about our first game,” Moshood said. “But we are ready for the second match. We’ve worked hard and I believe we will win by the grace of God.”

The captain revealed that the players held a meeting to encourage one another and reset their focus for the clash against France, who started their campaign with a 4–2 win over Samoa.

“We talked to ourselves and decided to change our mindset,” she explained. “No matter what happens, we must always stay hardworking and prepare for the next challenge.”

Moshood also sent a heartfelt message to Nigerian fans, acknowledging their disappointment while promising a much-improved performance.

“To Nigerians who were not happy with our performance against Canada, we are sorry,” she said. “We promise to do better, make you proud, and bring smiles to your faces.”

The Flamingos will take on France today in a must-win encounter as they aim to revive their qualification hopes in Group D.

The team currently ranked fourth in the group after round one matches .
