Taye Taiwo Hails Osimhen’s Relentless Spirit: “He Makes Defenders Tired”

Former Super Eagles defender Taye Taiwo has heaped praise on Victor Osimhen, describing the Napoli and Super Eagles striker as one of the most determined and fearless forwards he has ever seen in Nigerian football.

Speaking in an interview, Taiwo said Osimhen’s energy, drive, and hunger for goals make him a nightmare for defenders across the world. “He’s the kind of striker every defender dreads facing,” Taiwo admitted.

“He never stops running, never gives up. Even when he loses the ball, he keeps pressing. He makes defenders tired — that’s what great strikers do.”

The former AC Milan full-back, known for his thunderous left foot and tireless work rate, said he sees a reflection of Nigeria’s traditional football identity in Osimhen’s style — a combination of raw strength, speed, and passion.

“Osimhen plays with the Nigerian spirit,” Taiwo added. “That fighting energy, that hunger to win. He doesn’t just score goals; he inspires his teammates to keep pushing.”

Taiwo also highlighted Osimhen’s growing leadership qualities in the national team, praising his maturity and ability to motivate others despite his young age. “He has become a true leader. You can see it in how he carries himself on and off the pitch. When he celebrates a goal, it’s not just about him — it’s about Nigeria,” he noted.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s qualification for the World Cup playoff after a 4–0 victory over Benin Republic, Taiwo said the performance was a reminder of what the Super Eagles can achieve when they play with unity and belief.

“If Osimhen stays fit, and the team stays together, there’s no limit to what Nigeria can achieve. We have what it takes to go all the way.”
