Newly appointed Bendel Insurance Technical Manager, Coach Kennedy Boboye, has officially resumed duties with the Benin Arsenals, taking charge of his first training session at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The two-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title-winning coach — who led Plateau United and Akwa United to past league triumphs — wasted no time in setting the tone for his tenure, emphasizing discipline, teamwork, and a renewed sense of purpose within the squad.

During his first address to players and staff, Boboye urged everyone to put the club’s interest and that of the Edo State Government above personal gains, noting that collective responsibility was the only path to reviving the team’s fortunes.
“We must all be alive to our responsibilities and imbibe the culture of mutual respect to awaken team spirit and winning mentality,” Boboye stated. “I’ve been brought in to manage and take the club out of the current situation, but I can’t do it alone. I need everyone’s cooperation.”
The new gaffer also challenged his players to stay positive and focus on securing victory in their next fixture — a crucial home clash against Rivers United next week — which will mark his first game in charge.
Boboye expressed gratitude to the club’s management and staff for their warm reception, pledging to operate an inclusive system that values every member of the team.
His appointment comes on the heels of the suspension of former head coach Greg Ikhenoba, following a disappointing start to the NPFL season that saw Insurance lose 1-0 at home to Nasarawa United on Matchday 7.
With Bendel Insurance languishing below expectations, fans in Benin will be hoping that Boboye’s arrival sparks the turnaround needed to restore the pride of the historic club.
