Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, has expressed confidence that Nigeria can successfully host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, declaring that the country has the facilities and determination to stage a world-class event.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Olopade dismissed doubts over Nigeria’s readiness. “People keep saying our infrastructure is poor, but I disagree. With planned upgrades, Nigeria can deliver a spectacular Commonwealth Games,” he said.

Olopade revealed that the government and private sector are already in discussions to refurbish stadiums, athletes’ villages, and transport networks. “We will modernize facilities in Lagos, Abuja, and Asaba. By 2030, they will meet global standards,” he assured.
The NSC boss believes hosting the Games will boost Nigeria’s image and economy. “This will bring jobs, tourism, and investments. More importantly, it will inspire young athletes across the nation,” he added.
Olopade’s optimism has been echoed by several sports administrators, who believe the bid could mark a new era for Nigerian sports. “We’ve hosted major events before — from the All-Africa Games to the U-17 World Cup. We can do it again,” he said confidently.
If successful, the 2030 Commonwealth Games would mark Nigeria’s first-ever hosting of the global event — a historic milestone that could redefine the nation’s sporting identity.
