Ijamido Queens showed nerves of steel in a tactical duel with Cats Ladies, edging the contest 1-0 courtesy of a decisive second-half strike. The Ogun State-based outfit, long praised for their discipline and consistency, once again proved why they are one of the most respected grassroots teams in the women’s game.
In the second semifinal, Wazbak International stormed into a two-goal lead against Victory Queens before holding on for a 2-1 victory. Despite ringing the changes late on—substituting five of their starting eleven including the goalkeeper—Wazbak displayed the resilience and mentality that has defined their Super 8 campaign.
Tomorrow’s final, scheduled for 8:00 a.m., is expected to draw fans in their numbers as two of the tournament’s standout teams go head-to-head. For Ijamido Queens, it is a chance to crown years of investment in youth development, while for Wazbak, it is an opportunity to announce themselves as a new force in grassroots women’s football.
Beyond the silverware, the WAFA Super 8 has cemented its reputation as a critical platform for unearthing future stars. With scouts and stakeholders watching closely, Saturday’s final could serve as a launchpad for several young talents to progress into the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership and beyond.
The Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, which has become a symbol of grassroots football in Ogun State, will once again take center stage as history beckons for both clubs.
