Nasarawa United Edge Out Feeder Team In Test-Friendly Match

Nasarawa United FC secured a hard-fought 3-1 win over its Feeder Team in an in-house friendly match held at the Lafia City Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The match was designed to further strengthen the teams as the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football Leagues continue.

Nasarawa United’s determination and skills were on full display as they battled against their Youth Team counterparts.

The tense match manifested some eye-catching moments, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.

Collins Onovuke opened scoring for the Solid Miners in the 40th minute of the first-half, before second-half substitute, Adah Umar, increased the tally to 2-0, in the 50th minute.

Barnabas Elias, awestruck their senior counterparts with a beautiful finish to reduce the deficit to 2-1 in the 68th minute.

John Joshua, however, brought matters to rest, capitalizing on a goalkeeping error in the 72nd minute to give the senior team a 3-1 win.

The result comes as a boost to the Solid Miners who are preparing for their NPFL match-day five tie against Bayelsa United in Yenagoa, this weekend.

Addressing the teams, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nasarawa State, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, said he was impressed with the performance of both teams, particularly the Youth Team.

He expressed optimism that the Nasarawa United Feeder Team, formed some few months ago, would cause major upsets in the nearest future, both in Nigeria and beyond, considering the quality of talents embedded in it.

The Commissioner said Governor Sule approved the formation of the Feeder Team with a mandate to unearth hidden potentials to transition quality players into the main team and for export purposes.

The Commissioner urged members of both teams to work in synergy to achieve the purposes of the set up.

Chairman of Nasarawa United FC, Solomon Babanjah, and Lead of the Feeder Team, Andrew Kuwanta, both commended both teams for their sportsmanship and commitment, emphasizing the importance of such in-house friendly matches in developing the teams overall performance, disclosing that the future of Nasarawa United is guaranteed by the quality and calibre of players in the youth team.

Earlier, Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United, Mangut Mbwas, expressed satisfaction with the match, highlighting the importance of such friendly games in fine-tuning the teams’ strategies and building cohesion among players, stressing that the Feeder Team players showed they are in the right position to quickly transition into the main team, saving costs for the Government and encouraging sports development in the State.

Coach Balarabe Ibrahim of the Feeder Team said the match was a valuable learning experience as it helped them gain exposure to the senior team’s playing style and tactics.

Recall that the NPFL Board, in a recently released document, listed seven players scouted and invited from Nasarawa United Feeder Team from the NPFL U-19 Youth Championship held in Kano recently for the next phase of the competition.

The scouted players include, Mohammed Abdullahi, Emmanuel Vincent Shina, Moses Agbo, Umar Abubakar, Moses Sule, Nazif Yunusa Abdullahi, and Mohammed Iliyasu.

They are expected to join their counterparts from other Premier League and non Premier League clubs for a closed camping exercise slated from 4th-17th October, 2025, in either Abuja or Ogun State.
