SSA Adeboye Declares: Nigeria Ready to Make History with 2030 Commonwealth Games on African Soil

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deliver the first-ever Commonwealth Games on African soil in 2030, describing the country’s bid as “a defining moment for Africa and its youth.”

Adeboye, who was part of the high-powered government delegation that received the Commonwealth Games Bid Evaluation Committee in Abuja, said Nigeria is determined to not only host but also stage a Games that will inspire generations.

“This is bigger than just hosting a sporting event,” Adeboye said. “It is about giving Africa a voice, providing a platform for our youth, and showing the world that Nigeria is ready to make history. With the full backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the collective will of our people, Africa’s time has come.”

The SSA emphasized that Nigeria’s bid has all the ingredients of success—world-class facilities, strong political support, private sector partnership, and the passion of its people—stressing that the country is prepared to deliver a Games that embodies unity, inclusivity, and excellence.

His remarks came as the NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, alongside top government officials, presented Nigeria’s readiness to host the 2030 Games to the visiting evaluation committee.

Adeboye added that winning the bid would not just be a Nigerian achievement but “a continental victory,” ushering in a new era for sports in Africa.
