At just 15 years old, Omosivwe Treasure is set to make history as the youngest athlete in Team Nigeria’s squad for the CAA Region II Senior Athletics Championship in Ghana.
Treasure’s journey to the continental stage has been nothing short of remarkable.
In July, she was denied the chance to make her debut at the CAA U18 & U20 Combined African Athletics Championship in Abeokuta due to age restrictions.
The rule required U18 athletes to be 16 or 17 within the competition year, leaving the then 15-year-old ineligible.
Rather than allowing the setback to break her spirit, Treasure used it as fuel. Days later, at the 2025 National Athletics Championship in Yabatech where no age barriers apply she stunned the nation.
With a record-breaking leap of 1.75m, she won the women’s high jump title, becoming the youngest national champion in the event’s history.
Now, Treasure is ready for another chance to showcase her talent, this time on the senior stage in Ghana.
For her, age is no longer a barrier but a motivation to prove that resilience and determination can defy the odds.
A product of the Princess Mabel Madojiemu School Athletics Championships, Treasure follows in the footsteps of Olympian Prestina Ochonogor, another graduate of the grassroots programme who is also competing in Ghana.
With her eyes on the future and her heart set on representing Nigeria with pride, Omosivwe Treasure embodies the next generation of athletics excellence.
