Cyril Dessers Starts On The Bench As Rangers Open 2025/2026 Scottish Premiership Season With Stalemate

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers began the new Scottish Premiership season on the bench as Glasgow Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw against Motherwell in their opening fixture of the 2025/26 campaign.

The 30-year-old, last season’s top scorer, was omitted from the starting lineup by new manager Russell Martin, who opted to lead the attack with Brazilian forward Danilo Pereira.

Rangers took the lead in the 14th minute when captain James Tavernier headed home to give the visitors an early advantage.

Dessers was introduced in the 63rd minute, replacing Pereira, but was unable to influence the scorelines during his 28-minute cameo.

Motherwell snatched a late equalizer three minutes from time through Emmanuel Longelo, who found the bottom corner to deny Rangers all three points.

The result extended Rangers’ unbeaten run at Fir Park to 31 away league matches (20 wins, 11 draws) since their last defeat in December 2002.

Motherwell will face St. Mirren next, while Dessers and his Rangers teammates will turn their focus to European action as they host Viktoria Plzen in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match on Tuesday at Ibrox
