The Super Falcons of Nigeria received a grand state reception in Abuja on Monday following their historic triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted the team at the State House in Abuja, showering them with praises, national honours, and substantial rewards for their record 10th continental title.

Speaking during the reception, President Tinubu lauded the team’s resilience and impact on national pride:
“The indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage you displayed lifted the spirit of the entire nation. After that penalty, when I saw 2-1, my spirit was lifted, and I believe that of the nation was lifted too. You have inspired millions, especially young girls, who now see proof that their dreams are valid and achievable.
“You inspired me too, and it’s a great thing for a nation to have assets that are hope for today, tomorrow, and thereafter.”
The President conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour on each player and member of the technical crew.
In addition, he announced that each of the 24 players will receive a 3-bedroom flat in the government’s Renewed Hope Housing Estates and a cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000.
The 11-member technical crew will also receive 3-bedroom flats and $50,000 each.
President Tinubu concluded his address by reaffirming his admiration for the team’s achievements:
“Once again, I congratulate you, and I will continue to pray for you. My spirit is unyielding and will never die. God bless you.”
The ceremony highlighted the Super Falcons’ historic feat and the federal government’s commitment to rewarding excellence in Nigerian sports.
In addition Kwara state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has also promised the Super Falcons team, including the technical members, the sum of N10million each on behalf or the Nigeria Governors Forum.
