“This is a bold step towards the commercial transformation of African football,” Dr. Motsepe stated, adding that the move is part of CAF’s long-term vision to elevate the global value and competitiveness of African tournaments.
The announcement signals a new era for CHAN, a tournament exclusively featuring players who compete in their national domestic leagues. The upgraded rewards are expected to raise the stakes, boost visibility, and incentivize homegrown talent across the continent.
With this financial uplift, CHAN 2024 is poised not only to deliver world-class football but also to strengthen the foundations of local leagues across Africa. The message from CAF is clear: African football is investing in its future — and the world is watching.
