AfroBasket 2025: D’Tigress’ Captain Amy Okonkwo Discloses – We Want To Build Best Chemistry Together

Nigeria’s female basketball national team, D’Tigress’ captain, Amy Okonkwo says she and her colleagues are working hard to build the best chemistry together, in order to win this year’s AfroBasket competition in Cote d’Ivoire.

Sports247 gathered that, with the competition, which is officially known as 2025 African Women Senior Basketball Championship, set to tip-off this weekend in Abidjan, Okonkwo believes D’Tigress are good enough for a fifth straight title.

However, while admitting that all the players and their coach are working hard to clinch a record extending seventh title overall for Nigeria, Okonkwo assured that they will not take any opponent for granted throughout the impending contests.

The deft forward, who was born in Fontana, Carlifonia, USA and will clock 29 on August 26th, disclosed: “We are preparing to win, and we’re working hard. We’re working on our defence, and we’re working on our offence.

“We want to build the best chemistry as a team, in order to go and play at AfroBasket. I have very deep confidence in what we can do, but it’s going to take hard work.”

Okonkwo, who made her early marks playing collegiate basketball in the USA but now stars for Ligue des Bourges of France, reckoned further that all players in the Nigerian squad must work together and maintain one focus in order to emerge tops at AfroBasket 2025.

“Anybody can beat anybody. So, we have to go in there with high heads and good confidence. We must work together in order to win the competition,” affirmed Okonkwo, who emerged as most valuable player at the 2023 FIBA AfroBasket.
