Flying Eagles Coach Zubairu Targets Deep Run After 4‑1 Win Over Benin

Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu has reaffirmed his team’s ambition to reach the final and defend their title in the WAFU-B U-20 Championship after a convincing 4-1 victory over Benin Republic.

The Junior Cheetahs took the lead in the 24th minute with a stunning free-kick from Junior Olugbade, but Nigeria equalised before the break through Mohammed Abdullahi.

The Flying Eagles came alive in the second half. Ezekiel Kpangu put Nigeria ahead 2-1 after a flowing move inside the box, before Imrana Mohammed weaved through defenders to add a third. In the final minutes, Mohammed turned provider, assisting Abdulahi Majid for the fourth—a powerful strike from outside the area.

“We’ve played two games and we want to play till the end of the tournament,” said Zubairu. “The opponent gave us a tough challenge but I was happy with the way the boys responded.”
