The Chief Executive Officer of Yocateco Boxing Promotion, Hon. Yakubu Imadu, has thrown his weight behind the upcoming South West Zonal Veterans Football Qualifier set to take place from July 25 to 26 in Abeokuta.
The event, organized by the All Stars Football Association, Abeokuta, will hold at the main bowl of the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, and will bring together veteran footballers from across the southwestern states of Nigeria.

Despite Yocateco’s primary focus on boxing, Hon. Imadu emphasized the importance of supporting all sporting activities, describing sports as a unifying force that transcends individual disciplines.
“I believe in the power of sports to bring people together and foster development in communities. Even though Yocateco is rooted in boxing, supporting initiatives like this football veterans’ tournament aligns with our broader vision of grassroots sports development,” he said.
Hon. Imadu commended the organizers for sustaining the annual event, describing their commitment as a boost to the sports ecosystem, especially for former players who continue to contribute to the game in various capacities.
“Identifying with veterans is not just a show of support; it’s a responsibility for anyone passionate about sports. They’ve laid the foundation, and it’s only right we stand by them as they continue to promote unity, fitness, and mentorship through football,” he added.
The South West Veterans Qualifier promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent, camaraderie, and nostalgia, with teams representing Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti states battling for regional supremacy.
