Team Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m relay team laid down a strong marker ahead of next week’s African U20 Championships, clinching a dominant victory at the AFN/Dynamic Athletics Meet held over the weekend.

The quartet of Lucy Nwankwo, Success Oyibu, Anita Itohan, and Chika Bakwunye combined brilliantly to outpace Team Delta and Osheku Track Club, crossing the finish line in an impressive 45.65 seconds.

The win not only handed them a morale-boosting triumph but also served as a crucial tune-up ahead of the continental showdown, where Nigeria is aiming for a podium sweep in multiple events.

Speaking after the race, team officials expressed satisfaction with the synergy and baton exchanges, describing the outing as a timely performance boost.

“The chemistry among the girls was evident, and clocking 45.65s under competitive pressure is a good sign. This gives us confidence going into the African U20 Championships,” said a national team coach at the venue.

The quartet’s victory adds to a growing sense of optimism around Nigeria’s sprint hopes at the U20 Championships, with the relay team now seen as strong medal contenders.

As preparations intensify, this commanding win will likely encourage the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) as they fine-tune their final squad for the continental event.
