Igali revealed, “As a board, we have seven world championship medals that we won. If we are going to talk about African championship medals and Games medals, as a board, we have won about 90 or more.”

The Olympic Games gold medalist during his years of competing for Canada, though he hails from Bayelsa State, delightfully pointed out that the long list of laurels won under his tenure at the helm of Nigerian wrestling indicate a resurgence for the sector.

“This shows a resurgence in the results we are getting. This year alone, we were able to win our first African championship title in four years.

“The last time we won a title was in 2021. Now, in 2025, we’ve won a gold medal in the 65kg class by a 20/21 year old; which shows that the rebuilding process has already started,” Igali enthused.
