Barau FC Lands in Asaba with Sights Set on NPFL Promotion

Barau Football Club of Kano has arrived in Asaba with a clear mission — to secure one of four coveted promotion slots to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as they prepare to battle in the 2025 Nigerian National League (NNL) Super Eight playoffs.

Nicknamed the Maliya Boys, the Kano-based side touched down in the Delta State capital on Wednesday, full of confidence and ambition. The team travelled with a strong delegation of 32 players and over 15 officials, including coaching and backroom staff.

Club Media Officer, Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, confirmed their arrival and emphasized the team’s determination to fight for a place in Nigeria’s top-tier football league.

“We are here with one goal — to earn promotion to the NPFL. The players are mentally and physically prepared, and we believe our hard work will speak for us on the pitch,” Gwale stated.

Barau FC, one of the surprise packages of the 2024/25 NNL campaign, will be competing alongside top contenders such as Warri Wolves, Osun United, Crown FC, and Kun Khalifa FC of Owerri. Others in the fray include former NPFL sides Wikki Tourists, Yobe Desert Stars, and Doma United.

The week-long tournament, which kicks off on July 5 and runs through July 12 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, will not only decide the four teams promoted to the NPFL but also crown the overall champion of the NNL season.

With the Super Eight promising drama, tension, and top-level football, Barau FC’s presence adds an exciting northern flair to the battle for NPFL tickets — and they are ready to make history.
