Osun Govt Rallies Behind Osun United Ahead of NNL Super 8 Playoffs

In a major show of support, top government officials and football stakeholders converged at the Osogbo Township Stadium to boost the morale of Osun United, following the club’s qualification for the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8.

The meeting, which was spearheaded by the Osun State Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, signaled a renewed commitment by the state government to back the team’s quest for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Prince Adewusi assured the players and coaching crew of improved welfare, pledging to fast-track the resolution of any administrative delays regarding their entitlements. “This is not just football; it is about Osun pride. We will ensure everything you need is provided,” he stated.

Adding to the momentum, Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, joined the meeting via phone call, congratulating the team and urging them to seize the opportunity in Asaba to bring top-tier football back to the state.

Also present was Hon. Abiola Awoyeye, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, who promised legislative backing to support the state’s sports development and confirmed his attendance at the Super 8 in Asaba.

The team’s captain, Mojeed, expressed appreciation on behalf of the players, vowing to repay the faith shown by the government with improved performances. The supporters’ club also commended the intervention, describing it as timely and morale-boosting.

Osun United chairman, Gbenga Ololade Oriowo, praised the government’s continuous support and affirmed that the backing would inspire the team to deliver in Asaba.

The high-level meeting featured prominent attendees including SSA on Football Matters, Hon. Keinde Johnson, officials of the Osun State Sports Council, Ministry of Sports, and the entire Osun United family.

Osun United will compete in the NNL Super 8 playoff, scheduled to hold in Asaba from July 5 to 12, 2025, as they chase promotion to the apex division of Nigerian football.
