He acknowledged the team’s past near-misses but maintained optimism about the future, stating that the players are focused and united in their mission.

“We’ve had highs and lows, but the dream is still alive. We’re going for the AFCON title, and we want to be back at the World Cup,” Troost-Ekong said. “The journey continues, and we are fully committed.”

The Watford defender, who played a pivotal role during Nigeria’s recent AFCON and World Cup campaigns, believes the current generation of Super Eagles has the talent and hunger to succeed. He said the focus now is on building momentum through the World Cup qualifiers and preparing thoroughly for the AFCON tournament set to take place at the end of the year.

Troost-Ekong also emphasized the importance of discipline, consistency, and tactical readiness, calling on the entire football community, including fans and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to support the team.

“There’s a lot of work ahead, but we are ready for it. We need everyone—coaches, players, officials, and fans—to pull in the same direction,” he added.

With the Super Eagles set to face tough opponents in both AFCON and World Cup qualifiers, Ekong’s leadership is seen as vital in ensuring the team maintains its competitive edge and focus.

His remarks come at a time when Nigerian football is seeking resurgence on the international stage after mixed results in recent years.
