As the countdown to the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 play-offs begins, Technical Adviser of Crown Football Club of Ogbomoso, Coach Alexander Ayodeji Ayeni, has declared that his team is fully prepared to battle for promotion into the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Super 8 play-offs, scheduled to take place from July 5 to 12 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, will determine the teams that earn promotion to the elite division after a competitive 2024/25 regular season.
Coach Ayeni, speaking after the team’s Thursday training session, expressed confidence in the “Ajilete Warriors,” who finished second in Conference A behind Warri Wolves with 36 points—courtesy of an unbeaten home run, three away victories, and two draws. Crown FC will compete in the Southern Conference group alongside Osun United, Kun Khalifat, and Warri Wolves.
“After a short break, we are fully back to business,” Ayeni stated. “The players understand the importance of this competition, and we are leaving no stone unturned in our preparation. We are ready to compete.”
The former Akwa United coach also seized the opportunity to appeal for urgent financial and moral support from key stakeholders, particularly the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, as well as the people of Ogbomoso and well-meaning individuals across the state.
“I want to beg and implore the government of Oyo State—if there is a time to rally around this team, this is the time,” he said. “If there is a time for Governor Seyi Makinde to break another record, this is the time. The sons and daughters of Ogbomoso, especially those who are financially capable, must support us. It’s a collective responsibility.”
Ayeni commended the governor’s “Omituntun 2.0” initiative for its efforts in repositioning sports and upgrading infrastructure across the state, while urging that Crown FC’s promotion bid be seen as a significant addition to that legacy.
The team is expected to travel to Asaba next week as they look to secure one of the promotion tickets to the NPFL—a feat that would mark a historic milestone for the club and the entire Oyo State football community.
