As the countdown begins to the President Federation Cup (PFC) 2025 final, players of Kwara United and Abakiliki FC have an extra incentive to shine β Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will be in the stands, scouting for new talent.
The high-stakes clash is scheduled for 28th June 2025 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos, where Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaigners Kwara United will take on second-tier sensation Abakiliki FC.

But beyond the quest for silverware, the fixture now holds national team implications.
Chelle, who recently included 10 home-based players in the Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup invitational tournament in London, has revealed that the final presents another key opportunity to evaluate local talent for his next assignment β the long-awaited African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, set to hold from 2nd to 30th August 2025 in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
With Nigeria drawn in Group C alongside Senegal, Sudan, and Congo Brazzaville, the CHAN exclusively features players active in their respective domestic leagues, making the PFC final a crucial platform for hopefuls from both teams.
βThis is more than just a cup final,β noted a senior NFF official. βItβs a rare opportunity for players from both the topflight and second division to potentially write their names into the national team frame.β
Kwara United will be chasing their first Federation Cup title in decades, while Abakiliki FC are on the verge of making history as the first lower league side to lift the prestigious trophy in the modern era.
With the spotlight firmly on Onikan, the PFC 2025 final is set to double as both a domestic showdown and a Super Eagles audition β raising the stakes for every player set to feature.
