In a bold celebration of health, unity, and Olympic values, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), in partnership with the Nigeria Sport For All Commission, is set to host the 2025 edition of Olympic Day on Saturday, June 28.
The nationwide event will take place across various states, offering Nigerians of all ages a chance to participate in a global tradition that promotes fitness and community spirit.
Originally established in 1948 to commemorate the founding of the modern Olympic Movement by French nobleman Pierre de Coubertin in 1894, Olympic Day is now an international celebration of sportsmanship, inclusivity, and wellness.
This year’s theme centers on encouraging physical activity and embracing the Olympic ideals of excellence, friendship, and respect.
From brisk walks to group aerobics, and from jogging sessions to recreational sports, the event promises something for everyone.
In Lagos, the heartbeat of Nigeria’s sports administration and home to the NOC headquarters, preparations are already in top gear. The city will feature an impressive lineup of activities including mass aerobics, fun runs, and sports demonstrations.
These activities will culminate in the awarding of special diplomas signed by the President of the International Olympic Committee — a keepsake recognizing each participant’s contribution to this global movement.
Dr Abdul Ibrahim, Chairman of the NOC Sport For All Commission, has called on state governments, through their sports councils and commissions, to throw their weight behind the programme.
“Olympic Day is not just a celebration—it’s a movement. A call to action for every Nigerian to take charge of their health, engage with their communities, and live the Olympic spirit,” he said.
The NOC also extended an invitation to corporate bodies and philanthropists to support the event through sponsorships or donations.
Such involvement, the Committee noted, will not only boost community engagement but also offer valuable visibility for contributing organisations.
With enthusiastic responses pouring in from across the country, this year’s Olympic Day is shaping up to be a landmark event—uniting Nigerians through the power of sport and the enduring legacy of the Olympic Games.
Mark your calendars. Lace up your sneakers. Nigeria is moving—together.
