Nigeria’s shot put sensation, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, delivered a powerful statement on Tuesday at the prestigious Zagreb Meeting, recording a season-best throw of 21.58 metres.
Enekwechi, known for his consistency and discipline, surpassed the 21-metre mark three times during his series, underlining his growing form ahead of a crucial international season.
His performance not only marked a personal season high but also reaffirmed his status among the world’s elite in shot put.
Earlier this year, the Nigerian athlete had already thrown 21.13m in February and improved to 21.25m in March. This steady progression highlights his upward trajectory, with Tuesday’s feat representing his best mark of the year so far.
“Consistency is the main recipe for improvement, and Chuks has shown exactly that,” noted an athletics analyst. “Breaking the 21-metre barrier multiple times in one meet is no small feat.”
Enekwechi’s performance at Zagreb will serve as a major boost as he continues his preparations for upcoming global championships, including the Paris 2024 Olympics and the African Athletics Championships.
The 31-year-old remains one of Nigeria’s top medal hopefuls in field events and continues to inspire a new generation of throwers across the continent.
