Ogbonda Whyte Delighted as Bayelsa Queens Clinch Sixth NWFL Premiership Title

Bayelsa Queens head coach, Ogbonda Whyte, has expressed immense joy after guiding his side to their sixth NWFL Premiership crown in the 2024/25 season, their first league triumph since 2022.

The Prosperity Girls secured top spot in the Super Six playoff with 10 points, edging second-placed Nasarawa Amazons by a single point.

“I feel very happy because for me to be able to dethrone the former champions and take the trophy for Bayelsa State, I am very happy. Every coach wants to win,” Ogbonda Whyte said after the final matchday.

“My target was to end both the regular season and the Super Six on a high note and win the trophy for Bayelsa. I want to set a target that will take years for any coach in Nigeria to break into the Nigerian Women’s Football League”.

Bayelsa’s only defeat of the campaign—a narrow loss to Edo Queens—served as the lone blemish on an otherwise dominant run, in which they remained unbeaten through the regular season and the majority of the Super Six.

The club’s resurgence under Ogbonda’s leadership has not only restored their status at the summit of Nigerian women’s football but also secured qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

As the Prosperity Girls celebrate their return to continental competition, Ogbonda’s ambition is clear: establish a lasting benchmark of excellence in the league that will challenge future coaches for years to come.
