Scottish former star, Ally McCoist has blamed the stomach injury suffered by Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, on a late offside call by the assistant referee in Sunday’s English Premier League fixture.
Sports247 reports that, while the owner of Awoniyi’s club blamed the coach, Nuno Espirito Santo for not pulling the Nigerian striker out immediately after he collided with the post during the 2-2 draw with Leicester City, McCoist opined that the injury shouldn’t have occurred in the first place.

The setback came despite Awoniyi playing only the last seven minutes of the game at The City Stadium, haven gone on as an 83rd minute substitute, but he crashed into the upright while running for a ball that McCoist says had him in an offside position, yet the assistant referee kept his flag down.
McCoist said, “Accidents can happen, but the most important thing by a hundred miles is the player’s welfare. Fingers crossed, we can see him (Awoniyi) back very soon, but how often have we seen that happen?”
The Scottish ex-international, who played for Glasgow Rangers and coached them years after hanging his boots, reckoned that Awoniyi would have received prompt treatment and there wouldn’t have been any need for the stomach surgery je got on Monday, followed by several hours of an induced coma.
“A ball over the top, somebody’s two yards offside, see the goalkeeper come out, and there’s a collision. Just put the flag up.
“We’ve spoken about it before. I just think it’s blatantly obvious. Get the flag up. I totally understand what they try to do, but this is obvious, and it’s a yard off,” McCoist argued.
