Former Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) campaigners, 36 Lion FC of Lagos are eyeing a spot in the third-tier of the country’s domestic contests, Sports247 reports.
A source close to the team that now trains at Legacy Pitch inside Lagos National Stadium complex, disclosed that concrete steps have already commenced in order for the glamorous club to bounce back into Nigeria’a league sector.

However, with matches already on across all tiers of Nigeria’s leagues, the source added that 36 Lion may have to buy a slot instead of play to qualify for the NLO.
It was further gathered that the club’s owner and chairman of Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), Hajji Gafar Olawale Liameed decided to use their participation in this year’s Supremacy Cup as a test run for their impending return to the league.
However, with the club’s inability to emerge winners of the high-profile scouting competition that he organises on an annual basis, Liameed was on the verge of calling off their league aspirations.
The story, though, changed again on Thursday, with the team’s ability to emerge third in Supremacy Cup 2025, which was graced by many expatriate players’ agents; as the players softened Liameed’s heart with a 4-1 demolition of Tripple 44 Football Academy of Ibadan to clinch third place in their owner’s competition.
Sports247 gathered further that 36 Lion’s technical crew, led by Akinsola Akinrele (Arigo) and the team manager, Kazeem Omotosho will now tour the club’s three zones (Badagry, Ebute Metta and Ketu), in order to spot talents who can beef up the main squad at Legacy Pitch.
“We last participated in the league in 2012, but now we are coming back. To show how serious we are, we are ready to buy a slot in NLO,” the source told Sports247.
