2026 WAFCON Qualifiers: Oshoala, Seven Others Arrive as Super Falcons Begin Training in Togo for Benin Clash

Preparations have officially begun for the Super Falcons of Nigeria ahead of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying tie against Benin Republic, with eight players already in camp at Hotel Sarakawa, Lome, Togo.

Leading the early arrivals is team captain and six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, who was among the first to report for national duty.

She is joined by Taiwo Afolabi, Folashade Ijamilusi, Miracle Usani, Joy Omewa, Aderline Mgbechi, Blessing Illivieda, and Kafayat Mafisere, all arrived on Sundays evening

According to camp sources the Super Falcons will have their training session on Monday evening, with more players expected to join camp later in the day.

The early arrivals will focus on recovery drills witj head coach Justin Madugu, leading the team in fine-tuning tactics ahead of the crucial fixture.

Nigeria, nine-time champions of Africa, will face Benin Republic in the first leg of the qualifier on Thursday, October 24, at the Stade de Kégué in Lome, Togo.

The return leg will be played four days later, on Monday, October 28, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Super Falcons, who reached the Round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, are determined to maintain their dominance on the continent as they chase a place in the 2026 WAFCON.

Officials expressed optimism about the team’s readiness, noting that all players are expected in camp on Monday ahead of the match on Thursday.

The squad will continue to intensify preparations as Nigeria aims for a good outing as they begin the journey to defend their continental pedigree.
