The Turkish defender allayed that the expectation is quite high but following the series of intensive preparations and training the team has undergone before the game, they are ready to go all out against Canada and cause an upset despite the fact that Nigeria is seen as an underdog, sports247.ng writes.

“We are at the world cup, here in Australia, I feel great and very much excited at the senior level in the world cup having represented Nigeria in the youth level two times in the U-20 category and it has been my wish to be in this senior World Cup and I’m so grateful that my wish has been granted,” Ogbonna who is set for her senior appearance in the World Cup stated.

Our first game against Canada – “We are ready, we have been preparing hard for the first game because we know that they are the Olympic champions but we are no underdogs, we are a good side with individual qualities so we have all it takes to fight and play, that makes us unique collectively and as an individual.”

“The momentum in camp is very positive, with no jittering, we are all set and waiting for the day to come. Come Friday, we are going all out to give our best and to make our country proud,” she assured.

On the expectations as compared to the junior level – “the senior level is more demanding than the senior level, more is demanded of the performances we give. It’s a ground for multi-talented and experienced level and it’s no child’s play.”

On being the lowest ranked in the group – “Yes we are the lowest ranked but ranking doesn’t play football. You don’t underate any teams, in the history of football, underdogs cause upset to the best of the highest ranked. It doesn’t matter, we aren’t after that, it’s 11 v 11.”

“We are looking forward to making our country proud, everything is set and just two days to go out there and win,” she concluded.
