Following Nigeria’s 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Senegal at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu expressed his delight at both booking their spot at the FIFA U-20 World Cup and keeping Nigeria’s quest for continental glory alive.
“I’m the happiest man,” Zubairu said after the win. “Anything short of World Cup tickets, we have not won anything.

We set out to get those tickets, and now that we have, we can sit, strategize, and play with freedom as we go for the trophy.”
With the World Cup slot secured by reaching the semifinals, Zubairu urged Nigerians to maintain their backing.
“Nigeria always believes that Nigeria must win—that has been our mentality from time immemorial.
To those who have supported us with their prayers, please continue. Your prayers are really working for us, and we will not let you down. We will be sure to come back with the trophy.”
The Flying Eagles will next face the winners of the other quarterfinal between Morocco and Tunisia in the U-20 AFCON semifinals, one step closer to lifting a record-extending eighth title.
