Flying Eagles coach Aliyu Zubairu has reaffirmed that his team’s target remains winning Nigeria’s first-ever U-20 World Cup trophy, despite focusing on one match at a time.
Zubairu, whose squad recently qualified for the Round of 16, highlighted that the 2005 team, which lost the final to Lionel Messi’s Argentina, remains a benchmark. “We want to surpass that legacy. Our objective hasn’t changed,” he said.

He emphasized a balance between immediate focus and long-term ambition. “Each game matters, but our vision is to go all the way. The players are aware, and they are motivated,” Zubairu added.
The coach’s message underlines Nigeria’s desire to make history at the youth level, combining discipline, talent, and ambition to achieve an unprecedented milestone.
