The victory came in the 55 kg category, marking a significant milestone for the nation.

President of the Arm Wrestling Federation of Nigeria, Engr Samuel Olatunji Jackson, expressed his overwhelming joy and gratitude speaking to Sports247.

“I was shedding so many tears because of twelve years,” he said, reflecting on the journey leading up to this moment. He extended his thanks to the Minister of Sports, Senator John, for his contributions to the sport.

This year’s All African Games is particularly notable as it is the first time arm wrestling has been featured as a scoring event. The gold medal was won by Mausi Zannu, who has brought immense pride to her country. “Congratulations to her, the ministry, and Nigerians, especially our supporters who believe that we can make a difference for Nigeria,” Jackson added.

The Nigerian team, consisting of 15 arm wrestlers, has shown promising performance so far. Despite this being the first final, there are still many hopes and expectations for the team. Jackson emphasized that success in the sport is not about body size, but about mastering the techniques.

He also highlighted the importance of concentration, citing the example of Chika Blessing, who won silver in her last fight but lost focus in the crucial moments. “Anything can happen,” he said, “But for Nigeria, we are good to go. We’re looking forward to a minimum of five gold medals, and a maximum of eight or ten, in both the female and male categories.”

This victory marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s sports history, demonstrating the nation’s potential in arm wrestling on the international stage.
