The Nigeria Cricket Federation has confirmed that the seventh edition of the national Under-17 Cricket Championship will take place from March 11 to March 15 at the Twin Oval Cricket Ground in Abuja.

The announcement was made by the federation’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Ehizoje, who revealed that the tournament will serve as a key platform for identifying future stars for Nigeria’s national teams.

According to Ehizoje, the championship has become one of the federation’s most important grassroots initiatives aimed at discovering talented young cricketers across the country.

“The Under-17 Championship has always been a scouting competition,” Ehizoje said.

He explained that the tournament gives young players an opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of national team selectors and technical officials.

“Players who perform well during the competition are usually identified and invited to the national teams,” he added.

The federation believes the competition plays a critical role in strengthening Nigeria’s cricket development structure by creating a clear pathway from grassroots to elite level.

“This tournament is an important part of our strategy to develop cricket from the grassroots,” Ehizoje noted.

The PRO also highlighted that the event will bring together talented youngsters from different parts of the country, allowing them to compete and gain valuable match experience.

“It gives young cricketers the chance to test themselves against the best talents in their age group,” he explained.

Over the years, several players who featured in previous editions of the championship have gone on to represent Nigeria in international competitions.

Ehizoje expressed optimism that the upcoming edition will once again produce promising players capable of representing the country in the future.

“We are confident that more talented players will emerge from this year’s competition,” he said.

The federation hopes the tournament will continue to strengthen the talent pipeline and ensure Nigeria remains competitive in international cricket.
