Yenagoa City Int’l 10KM Race is a Statement of Intent for Bayelsa’s Global Sporting Ambition – NSML MD, Mrs Yetunde Olopade

The Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, has described the maiden Yenagoa City International 10KM Race as a bold declaration of Bayelsa State’s readiness to take its place on the global sporting stage.

Speaking at a pre-race World Press Conference in Yenagoa, Mrs. Olopade said the race, scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026, is more than just a sporting event, but a strategic initiative aimed at youth engagement, economic stimulation, and community development.

“This event is not just another race, it is a statement of intent,” she said. “A statement that Bayelsa State is ready to take its place on the global sporting stage, and that excellence is not accidental, but deliberate.”

Organized by Nilayo Sports Management Ltd, the race is an initiative of the Bayelsa State Government, with strong backing from Governor Douye Diri and the State Ministry of Sports. Mrs. Olopade commended the leadership for their vision and commitment to delivering a world-class sporting event.

As consultants to the state government, Nilayo Sports Management Limited is providing technical expertise and strategic direction to ensure that the race aligns with international best practices and standards.

“Our focus is clear, it’s to deliver a race that is not only successful locally but credible globally,” she added.

The event has also attracted international attention, with representatives from World Athletics expected to be on ground to observe and assess the race.

Notable personalities at the Press Conference included Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Daniel Igali; Commissioner for Information, Hon. (Mrs.) Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai; Vice President, Nigeria Olympic Committee, Chief Solomon Ogba; Representative, World Athletics, Nadeem Khan; Chairman, Elite Athletes Development & Podium Board, Yusuf Alli.

Athletes from across Nigeria and beyond are expected to compete in the 10KM race, which will conclude at Peace Park, opposite Government House, serving as the official finish point and hub for post-race activities.

Mrs. Olopade also expressed appreciation to partners, sponsors, and the media for their support in amplifying the vision, while encouraging residents of Bayelsa to come out in large numbers to be part of the historic event.
